I feel this is a very compelling question. In the modern era, we generally think of life after death as an afterlife, or one of many afterlives (Elysium, Valhalla, Naraka, etc…). However, the Jedi don’t believe in an afterlife in the way we think of one. They feel we merely become one with the Force. While the Sith attribute such a mindset to nonexistence, since we loose our identity and individuality in the process, the Jedi see it as a transformation, rather than a deletion of being. We still exist when we are absorbed into the Cosmic Force, but we are not ourselves. Rather we become a pure essence of the universe itself.
Such beliefs are based off of Daosim, which believes in a universal power called the Dao, from which all life originates. When we die, our essence is simply absorbed back into the Dao.
