Just so I understand. This is the canon version of KOTOR. They are establishing the Old Republic in Disney’s canon now, correct?

Well this came as a complete surprise and I’m certainly (cautiously) excited for it!

On a second note though, does somebody know if this project replaced the KotOR Remake or is it still being developed separately?

@Crystal Vulptex Agreed. I really want to see more of alien species in Star Wars, especially the Miraluka.

@AdmiralZod1 not necessarily a canon KOTOR. It’s just a story set during the end of Old Republic that will presumably play similarly to the original games. In terms of lore and narrative, we have no idea what of the old stories will translate into Canon. But the Old Republic as an era has existed in Canon for years now, it’s just largely undefined at this point.

@Lord Maaar This is a separate project from a separate studio. Expect the KOTOR remake to remain in perpetual development hell for the foreseeable future lol.

I'm very excited for this game.

I saw this the other day, hoping it’s true! I understand some of these minute or so concept trailers are more to attract developer talent and investment and less to advertise an impending release, but it’s nice to know this game will actually exist at some point, lol.

I look forward to seeing how the game turns out. Knights of the Old Republic I and II were a little bit before my time but I’ve enjoyed the lore of the games and played The Old Republic MMORPG a lot and that era is one of my favorites in Star Wars. I’m not too concerned if it’s canon or not because I simply enjoy a good story so for my part I hope the game is fun -perhaps I can finally rid myself of my Skyrim addiction lol

^Yeah I agree. There are a lot of people who are laser-focused on which continuity the game will take place. I’ve even seen a reasonably big channel on YouTube say something along the lines of “the moment they say it’s not Legends, I’m out”.

In my opinion, it does not really matter (though from a purely visual perspective, they have gone out of their way to evoke some of KotOR’s elements). Ultimately, the most important things this game has to accomplish are: 1. Having a well-written and engaging story, 2. Great characters, 3. Fun gameplay, 4. Meaningful player agency and RP customization.

I would be content if it was similar to the Jedi Fallen Order game and sequel, perhaps more RPG heavy and not as intensive combat. I think it’d be cool to customize our character to different specializations suited to our tastes but without a gameplay trailer it’s hard to say how it is yet
