The Old Republic is back!!!
Revealed just moments ago at the annual Game Awards, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a single-player, action role-playing game set during the end of the Old Republic era. It is being developed by Lucasfilm Games and Arcanaut Studios, and directed by Casey Hudson, the original director of the first KOTOR game. Watch the teaser trailer here.
And also check out the official article from StarWars.com featuring an interview with Hudson, and Lucasfilm Games’ Douglas Reilly.
In the article, they confirm that this neither a sequel nor a continuation of the original KOTOR games, presumably making it our first, real Canon venture into The Old Republic. The game will introduce new characters and tell an all new, ambitious story in the spirit of the franchise’s most lauded gaming titles.
I will have more thoughts on this later. I am still processing lol. I’ve seen the leaks the past two weeks suggesting an Old Republic announcement was coming, and was prepared to be thoroughly whelmed. But the direct involvement of original KOTOR developers completely changes things. Will have to ruminate on this myself, but I wanted to get this post up so we could discuss.
Mostly I’m just thinking about how, after a pretty dreary year for Star Wars news, getting two of the most consequential news stories of the past ten years in the span of a week is a tad overstimulating lol.
