Mace Windu’s General Attitude

I find it difficult to shake the perception that Mace Windu is too adherent to the Jedi Code in detachment. To me he represents the less desirable side of the detachment idea. He doesn’t seem to be able to effectively relate to non Jedi or maverick Jedi.

I know that the Jedi are servants of the Force but I still feel that if Jedi led a less monastic life and interacted with people they would be better able to help keep peace because they could understand the views of the normal people.

As Master of the Order, Mace is an institutionalist. It’s his job to champion the Jedi Code and the traditions of the Order more than anyone, though it’s stated in The Glass Abyss novel that he still held maverick Jedi like Qui-Gon in high esteem. He’s also more of a stoic warrior than the compassionate teacher by nature, so he just might be the wrong person to look to for sympathy. Qui-Gon points this out in The Living Force novel, and challenges Mace and the rest of the Council to step outside the Temple once and awhile to better connect with the galaxy.

Although I personally think authors have recently done his character a disservice by reducing him to a bully of younger Jedi like Anakin or Iskat Akaris, even that can be explained as Mace just refusing to bend the rules to give certain Jedi special treatment—like, Anakin was in the wrong for being so angry about not being granted the rank of Master.

Yeah I get that. I'm just pointing out what I see. He respected Qui Gon but not Anakin nor did he respect Ahsoka. At least from what I could see. Though I wouldn't say his bullying can be explained away so easily. He was within his rights to deny Anakin the rank of Master.
