Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Honestly, it was pretty good overall. However, General Grievous is taken rather as a joke, and Anakin doesn't really act or look like the Anakin in the prequals. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent show, but if can't look over these types of things you won't enjoy it.
Back in 08? I thought it was fine, but something kept nagging at me about it. I held onto that thought for awhile, then it came to me about 4 years? 5 years ago and that is....it's a pretty mediocre show that completely doesn't understand Anakin's character and doesn't understand the PT at all as far as its narrative.
Anakin in TCW may as well be a completely different character compared to the PT, the show doesn't understand how a war works IE: The Republic basically winning every engagement, even Obi-Wan commented on this...just because you joke about it, doesn't mean it's fine.
Having Anakin and Dooku fight constantly completely takes away their final duel in ROTS in which it's pretty much stated that they haven't met since Geonosis. The same with Obi-wan fighting Grievous, they never met before.
The show completely undermines the Kaminonians as excellent Cloners, because you have Clone Troopers left, right and center defecting/leaving the Republic, which shouldn't be happening given what AoTC stated. Ontop of that 10 years and apparently the best Cloners in the galaxy, can't make a soldier worth Bantha dung.
Palpatine is relying on a biochip implant for Order 66, which again makes no sense and can easily backfire on him, this makes Palpatine look extremely stupid that he's relying on something which has shown to be unreliable. It's amazing that Order 66 worked at all. This also wasn't needed, considering again....what AoTC stated.
Bringing back Maul was a misstep and frankly, considering TCW was actually tanking in the ratings, I fully believe they only brought him back due to nostalgia and getting more viewership. That aside, Maul was just a character spinning his wheels, he basically does nothing the whole series other than constantly losing fights, he builds up a criminal empire, loses it....and then he's a crying/begging coward because he got beatdown by his Master.....yeah no, that's not a Sith Lord.
Which also shows, that they had no faith in Oppress as a character, despite the fact he was built up to be the Maul of the Clone Wars.
Humanizing the standard Clone Trooper again completely misses the point as we see them in the PT. They're suppose to be faceless soldiers, because as you might have guessed...that is what they were designed/built to be. Ontop of that it symbolizes how the Galactic Republic was going to turn into the Galactic Empire....Clone Troopers = Stormtroopers. So the show giving them the degree of Humanization....completely misses the point of the narrative.
Mind you, this is what I took BEFORE I re-read into the Clone Wars Multi-Media Project as I hadn't looked at that in quite some time. After I went through the Republic Comics by Dark Horse, the various novels and games. That's when I saw as TCW to just be....complete garbage is terms of everything.
The CWMMP does everything much, much better and fits with the PT compared to TCW. It understands the narrative of the PT and its characters that are involved and I highly recommend to anyone to at least read the Republic comic series, starting from issue 49 if you just wanna follow the Clone Wars.
But that's just my opinion.
TCW will always hold a special place in my heart. I guess the quality of each episode varied across seasons, but this series was such a loving creative infusion for the franchise—so many now iconic characters, locations, and events found their start here, and current projects are still building off of storylines and concepts first established by TCW. It was this series more than anything else that made the narrative and themes of the prequels fall into place for me, too.
And when this show was good, it was very good. Some of the arcs of the show (e.g., the Umbara Campaign, the Siege of Mandalore) still shine out as some of the best of Star Wars has done. I personally loved how weird and “out-there” the series was willing to get with stuff like the Mortis arc in S3 or Yoda’s spiritual journey in S6.
It’s not a top-to-bottom masterpiece, and people do tend to forget or downplay the numerous duds of the series when looking back on it, but I love this show and everything it’s done for the franchise.
I don't like it very much
Like a B or a B+, pretty good with issues
TCW is an underrated masterpiece that added some much needed context to RotS, especially on the behalf of the clones.
I love this show so much! It features some of my favorite characters,(Mostly Ahsoka lol) and it adds a lot of depth without adding super necessary info. It features bits and pieces from the movies while still being unique.
Excellent ending to the Gold Standard of the animated tv series.
Well animated and well written..
Worthy of being part of The Star Wars Galaxy.
What do you think?
