Even if that's what he did in canon, it was clear that was never the intention while writing the original trilogy. He was supposed to die, but they brought him back decades later because they made the strange decision to kill off snoke
THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!!!
If he's just transferring his consciousness, then yes, he could absolutely somehow return.
Thanks a lot Disney.
It better be his final death, the Sequels already ruined Anakin’s character purpose, don’t need it happening again.
Before anyone says “but they brought him back before!”
Context people, context. Disney doesn’t have that luxury, they’ve known for over 2 decades who Anakin as a character is. They just brought back Sidious for zero reason other than to get butts in seats….and still RoS was a dumpster fire.
We didn’t need him brought back at all, they could’ve easily brought back Snoke, but they didn’t. Didn’t have any faith in their new characters, which is honesty quite sad.
The sequels mix of being burdened by the previous works in unhelpful ways (Kylo’s corny obsession with Vader, surprise Palpatine), and stubbornly trying to separate from them almost insultingly (Luke) is a wild mix in retrospect. They do a remarkable job combining the worst of each approach.
^And while I agree with this… let’s be real, the Dark Empire arc was still a terrible followup of the Thrawn campaign.
^ I mean was any story really going to live up to that one? But at the very least Dark Empire gave a lesson to Luke, it grew Leia as a character, it gave rise to the Jedi Order coming back. It at the very least contributed to the story and characters moving forward in the galaxy.
That’s more than can be said for RoS which flushed the entire ST narrative, or what was left of it, down the toilet….and it didn’t do the characters any favors either.
Legends have it that each subsequent Star Wars trilogy will end with Palpatine somehow return and having to be finally defeated.
Was very happy to see Ian McDiarmid had an interview lately where he very unsubtly said it would be unsalvagably ridiculous for Palpatine to return again.
He would max out savageness if he refused to work with disney or use his likeness for further content with him in live action
It will always be a background issue a What-If scenario.
The disney side of the canon is a pathway to many story ideas some consider to be undesirable
