I would’ve preferred something similar to Obi-Wan, where he clearly was in love with Satine but his dedication to the Order stopped him from pursuing a relationship. I like Mara, but the way she and Luke were put together was a bit forced and not well built up to. I don’t think their marriage opened new storytelling avenues for the two characters, either; e.g., Survivor’s Quest was a great read, but Luke and Mara didn’t need to be married for that story to work. I think it would've better fit Luke’s character to be romantically involved with Mara or whoever else, but ultimately his duty to the Jedi Order causes him to have to sacrifice his love life.
