First and foremost, the abundance of controversy surrounding this series has been an utter pain, so I am grateful to have a civilized forum such as this. I must admit though that I haven’t seen a whole lot of anticipation here beforehand lol. I was initially too tired to make this thread, as evident by messing up episode 2’s title in the non spoiler poll, but I just went for it lol.
After having watched the episodes, I must say that I did enjoy them. I’m glad to have gotten a project set outside of the Skywalker Saga. I quite liked much of the aesthetics, from the visual and stylistic choices made, that help set it apart from prior entries. I already like several of the characters and am intrigued with the greater mysteries these episodes presented. I definitely have my share of criticisms, from an abundance of random and quite distracting transitions to bland dialogue in some areas. Overall though, I did enjoy this two-episode premiere.
Episode 1: It was admittedly the weaker of the two and was a bit slow. The whole prison escape sequence was definitely my least favorite part and I could’ve honestly done without it. It just felt a little too convenient to get the characters into position. Anyway, the recent trailers somewhat spoiled the first reveal, but yes, Amandla Stenberg is playing twins: Osha, Sol’s former apprentice and now a mechanic, and Mae, the dark side acolyte. Right now, both characters are just so-so, but I am interested in their backstory and the grudge Mae holds. Rip Indara, but this was pretty obvious as all of the present day footage of her from the trailers was just from the cantina fight. As expected, Sol is my favorite character and is Qui-Gon-esque. I quite enjoyed the general dynamics amongst the Jedi. It’s an enlightened period for them, but you can pinpoint the cracks growing in the order.
Episode 2: Although shorter, this was the better of the two episodes and offered much more insight and background for this story. Rip Torbin, but we will be seeing him and Indara via flashbacks in the coming episodes. For him to be willing to poison himself, the incident surrounding Osha and Mae is drawing even more intrigue. I quite like Sol’s relationships with Osha and Jecki, but he has his regrets and appears to be concealing information that will likely result in them losing faith in him, the former especially. Qimir is definitely one shady character and there’s definitely got to be more to him than it appears. The most common theory is that he’s actually the masked dark sider and Mae’s master, but it’s still hard to say.
