Do you miss it? What are some of your favourite stories from it? Do you have any fun memories of the EU?

^Agreed.
SW has a long history of churning out very variable content.
But somehow there's a whole cohort of folk who think it's something Disney invented shit SW media.
^ When in reality, it was invented back in 1978 by George Lucas himself.
Aaaargh!
My eyes are bleeding.
That whole scene was so creepy.
Probably where he developed Anakin and Padmé's relationship from.
@Darth Cumulonimbus Did it have some unnecessary stuff? Yeah, but to say it couldn't handle and support itself? That I'm not entirely sure and as far as lockout, I don't really think it's that big of a deal, considering many didn't really dive deep into the EU in the first place. The vast majority, really only played the games at best(outside of just knowing the movies), but even then, the EU was more of a niche thing that only the ones who were really involved within it, actually followed.
I'm not saying there wouldn't be problems, because franchises that go on for over decades will have those things. What I'm getting at though, is mainly there was still stories to tell and finish.
I was in that niche of reading it all. Especially post ROTJ. But a lot of it I read out of duty rather than enjoyment. It was a real slog at times. I just wanted to know the stories.
I was well pleased when it got decanonised.
Not really sure why you read something, that you weren't enjoying with it. But regardless fine, you do you. All I'm saying is that the EU still had unfinished stories and could have went on, that's it.
Like I said, I wanted to know the stories. I am addicted to SW. Have been for nearly 50 years. Maybe I should go to SW anonymous.
And you never quite knew when you would get something brilliant.
It's a bit like the football team I support. They are rubbish but I keep watching them.
To answer the OP's original question, no, I don't miss it. I read one novel after ANH, and it was pretty awful. I read a few after TPM and they were ok, but I never really cared about any of the non-canon stuff.
I miss it a lot. I actually did a long stream with some EU fans for the anniversary, and we also worked on a video where 70ish people submitted essays about their experience being an EU fan:

I will never accept a Star Wars canon other than the original Expanded Universe. There was not a single part of it I didn’t completely adore. It was far superior to anything done by the films in my opinion — and that includes the original trilogy, mind you — and it just kept getting better and better as time wore on. It’s been ten years and I’m still bitter. From my perspective, those were the best characters and storylines to have ever been written, and their discontinuation is a sad loss to the world.
That’s why I’m glad so glad I found a series of fan fiction stories which have picked up where the EU left off a decade ago with the same style and quality of the original authors I adored. That, combined with the new audiobooks from The Essential Legends Collection, have made me the happiest I’ve been in years. It feels good to know that the EU has not been forgotten and that I’m not alone in missing it.
What do you think?
