^i feel like that is the point, he also reminds me of Cornelius Fudge from Harry Potter. All three were unwilling to admit that their enemies were making their move and that fear forced them to ruin the names of good people, prohibited anyone from taking the appropriate action, and only allowed the enemy to plan things out more carefully

^yeah good points. seems like a dumb way to do things though, almost every time you ignore the problem it doesn't just go away it gets worse until it finally breaks or blows up in your face(figuratively or literally) and everything gets worse from there

^i don’t disagree with you, but for guys like them, the enemy returning makes them look like they’re not doing doing their job right, and it also means another all out war which would end the “peace” they worked to maintain, and that doesn’t make them look good in the eyes of the people. Simply put it, they are all corrupt politicians that only care about maintaining their “good name” and positions of power

For God's sake, practically the ENTIRE PLOT of Ahsoka wouldn't have happened had that New Republic Captain simply just done ANYTHING other than let the obviously suspicious ship using old Jedi codes on board. He didn't order his men to scan the ship or send anyone out to meet them, nor did he attempt to contact them to see if they were actually Jedi or consider that there's a one-in-a-million chance of them being Jedi since they're virtually extinct at this point in time. He just invited them onboard and then proceeded to make things WORSE by taunting them when there were lightsabers clearly in his view.

So nah, the New Republic is just simply incompetent so the plot can happen. Anyone Captain with a decent brain would've blown that ship to smithereens or at the very least not let them board given how sus the whole situation was.

But that's exactly my point: "so the plot can happen". The writers of any material that takes place between episodes 6 & 7 are constrained by having to make the plot lead into TFA.

Reminds me of bothan from the original thrawn trilogy. He wants to protect the new public but is more concerned with his perception than the reality of thrawn's return. He's probably vying for chancellor of the new republic or something.
