Tbh, I kinda like them all. I mean yeah, there are some cases where an Era has a weakpoint, but even in that, there's at least something I can appreciate for, in one capacity or another.
A bit though I'm torn between Rise and Rebellion Era the most. I think I might wanna lean in towards.....Rebellion Era.
But it's honestly really and I mean REALLY close.
I got a 3 way tie between the Rise of the Empire era, New Republic era, and the New Jedi Order era as these eras are where the bulk of my favorite EU stories lie. I think I’m gonna vote for the New Republic era though since it’s the era that got me hooked into the EU and solidified it as my favorite Star Wars continuity.
Rise of the Empire, because of the great Clone Wars era works like Shatterpoint, the Battle of Jabiim and the Revenge of the Sith novelization. The New Republic and New Jedi Order eras are very close behind.
I think I'd put Rebellion era near the bottom, because apart from the films, there isn't really much going on. And kind of has an awkward feeling, half the cast is missing and there's several prequel-era holdovers. It feels more like a prologue to the New Republic era than it's own distinct period.
^Yeah, the Rebellion era would be in the bottom half for me as well for the reasons you’ve mentioned. I still really like the EU version of the Rebellion era but it doesn’t have as much EU content that really sticks out to me. I feel like the Empire comics and the Star Wars (2013) dark horse comics did the best job of including most of the major players from the OT and expanding on the era. Heck we even got a Biggs Darklighter backstory arc in the Empire comics. The Allegiance and Choices of One novels are pretty good too as they do a fantastic job of covering Mara’s early days as the Emperor’s Hand, a group of rogue stormtroopers that don’t actually defect to the rebellion, and Han’s reluctance to commit to the rebellion.
Also, @MagicHead66 I noticed that you’re new here! Welcome to the Wook! Please take some time to read our warm welcome. If you don’t mind me asking what’s your favorite EU era?
What do you think?
