Rewtch TCW and we already know the dark side is really really op at times. Beside he was an insane spider for a while. Savage was lame compared to maul. I love their descion of maul to be back. They forgot about the solo thing at the end
I just think that Maul returning as a spider-legged guy in a cartoon was milking the character. Agree to disagree I guess.
How was Maul returning milking the character though when he wasn’t really much of a character to begin with and was more of a plot device? It isn’t like they took some popular character who died after getting loads of screentime, and revived them in order to put them in 10 different pieces of media and give them more unnecessary screentime- Maul barely got any screentime or lines in TPM and it was TCW that turned him into the popular and well-written character that he is today.
Facts
^ Maul was already a popular character even before TCW and honestly I kinda have to agree that him surviving was....an odd choice, considering they had Savage and were building him up. Like Savage is just a yellow Maul, but then they brought Maul back and sidelined him.
Like they could have just made Savage a great character, having him try to avenge his brother's death...which would be great for motivation and storytelling purposes.
I agree bringing Maul back wasn't really the best idea, especially since as per the TPM he fell into a melting pit...meaning you know...he would have melted. There's nothing within that shaft he fell down upon, that he could have grabbed onto and saved himself.
It kinda also takes away with Obi-Wan avenging his Master Qui-Gon and ascending to the rank of Jedi Knight. That was suppose to be his story moment of surpassing his own Master.
They had Savage who was basically Maul, the only difference is he was bigger, but even Dooku noted his potential was...like Maul's. So it's clear that for TCW, Savage was suppose to be that Era's Maul, but they wasted it.
Also let's be real, anything Maul did as a character within TCW wasn't going to last, so what was even the point? He had Obi-Wan dead to rights multiple times, but instead of killing him...he just uses the idiot ball and doesn't do anything. He builds up this criminal empire, only for it to come crashing down, Maul as a character doesn't accomplish anything, he's just a third wheel spinning for no reason. He doesn't really do a whole lot later either.
With Savage, there were endless possibilities you could make for him and have things that actually stick as a character.
@Daisy Aipom Maul was a very popular character during the entire prequel era which is probably why they revived him in the first place. Sure he wasn't the best written character pre-TCW, but they pretty much did what you described - they revived him in like half a dozen new pieces of media (Clone Wars, Rebels, Solo, and several comics, etc).
Resurrecting characters to make new stories is the dumbest reason ever! If they want make stories of these characters they should take place BEFORE they die!
Every single dead character coming back to life is a problem, like it only works in some cases like with darth maul where there was a whole ark explaining his survivel showing how he used is anger and hatred for kenobi to survive. but in now when someone dies u don't even expect them to be dead. also disney completely ruined lightsabers, u don't survive being stabbed in the abdomen with a 20 000 c glowing stick of plasma.
Agreed. It makes more logical sense surviving having your legs cut off than being stabbed in the abdomen.
Yes. Especially with Ventress in BB which was just so pointless and unneeded.
