In the context of film I call it Star Wars, in the context of Star Wars I call it A New Hope.

Star wars, since I usually only watch the originals in their original theatrical version, and that's what it was called originally, but ANH on the fandom.

It's been A New Hope for over 40 years, so to avoid confusion that's what I call it.

I don't remember anyone actually calling it ANH when I was young. It was always Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi, that's how people differentiated between them.

When I'm talking to people my age or older I say "Star Wars".

When I talk to someone born after 1997, I say "A New Hope".

I’ve always known it as ANH and it also makes more sense to me. „Star Wars“ is better suited for the name of an entire franchise due to it sounding so general rather than the name of a specific movie whereas it‘s the opposite for „A New Hope“
