Is anyone on this fandom old enough to have seen the Original Trilogy movies in theaters in 1977, 1980, and 1983? If so, how was the experience back then?

@JediTimeLady Thanks for giving us a glimpse of what it was like to be in your shoes when Star Wars first came out!
As someone who grew up with the prequels, I always had trouble relating to the Original Trilogy because as much of a classic as it is, I felt that it was a bit too dated and stale to hold my attention on the franchise forever. For me, it was really the expansion of the universe with the prequels and video games like KOTOR that solidified the franchise as my favourite. But I realize now that I take for granted how groundbreaking Star Wars must have felt back then in 1977 and early 1980s. 🙂
I was born 1983, and my mom always tells me she took me to the theaters a few months after I was born on opening day. I can’t say I knew what the heck was happening at the time, but my mom said I didn’t cry for a week. Even when I got older I enjoyed them more and more.
Gosh, Im so old.
But I was a big fan of the prequels.
I think no matter what year you were born, Star Wars has always played a part in all our lives, and always will.

Not me but my mom saw it back in the day. Got dragged there by a friend and despite having almost no interest in seeing it originally, ended up loving it
I was born in 1992, but my mom saw them when they opened and I have asked her what it was like. My mom was 15 years old when ANH came out
My Dad was 6 when Star Wars first came out and he has talked about how back then everybody was so amazed by the special effects in the movie because it was way ahead of its time.
I grew up with the prequels coming out, so the original trilogy is beyond my time.
What do you think?
