Isn't killing Palpatine securing the fact that he saved Luke (and, y'know, the entire galaxy)? If he hadn't what was going to stop the emperor from turning around and electrocuting Luke too?

Yeah, I don’t think he was doing it to avenge Padmé

I could see him doing it because Palpatine was a complete dirt bag though.

As I stated before with this

Vader has been in this situation before

When Palpatine was attacking Mace, Anakin made the wrong choice to let Palpatine kill Mace which Anakin betrayed his friends and Padme

It happened again but this time with Luke. Vader made the right choice to save his son and avenge Padme

I think this was the perfect way for him to redeem and turn good again because Palpatine tortured his son Luke and he had realized that that it was (part of) the only family he had left.
