I have not seen the clone wars tv show.
Is it important that I watch that before the bad batch?
I never got into either but now I am interested in the bad batch.

Yes because you need to know the characters like the members of The Bad Batch, who Rex, Wolffe, Gregor, Cody, Nala Se, Cad Bane, AZ, Asajj Ventress, and a bunch other characters who appear in the show
Also there are pieces from the Clone Wars story that helps explain things
You’re completely right, I did not think of that
Watching TCW definitely gives way more context to TBB and will make what happens to the clones feel all the more tragic and emotional. In the prequels they barely got any characterization and were just plot devices, but TCW fleshes them out and shows that while they look the same, their personalities are all different and each of them is unique and their own person.
While TBB can stand on its own and you’ll probably enjoy it regardless, it’s not exactly a “Should I watch Rebels before Ahsoka?” kind of situation- TBB is a direct sequel/spin-off to TCW, it’s been advertised as such since the first season and continues the character arcs of multiple TCW characters, therefore many moments won’t hit as hard or feel as important without context from TCW.
If you do want to watch TCW before TBB though you don’t have to watch all the episodes, I think a few clone-centric ones like the Umbara arc, the Fives conspiracy arc, the clone cadet episodes from the early seasons, maybe a couple bounty hunter/Ventress episodes etc should be enough to get basically caught up. Also the Bad Batch arc in season 7 of course, like Elias said.
TCW is a bit overwhelming at 7 seasons. I'd say the only part you really need to see is the Bad Batch arc in season 7. Then you can always go back to TCW after TBB to get some context for the other things..
I think I agree the most with @Shambala108.
Clone Wars is just a generally great TV show. I'd personally watch it beforehand
As others have already said, there are a few characters and plot threads where it would help if you were already familiar with them. When it comes to relevant characters, I‘d point at Rex who is a main character in TCW and thus appears in many episodes (where you could choose from) and probably at Nala Se and Lama Su who I believe appear mainly in Attack of the Clones.
When it comes to arcs, @Daisy Aipom made a good selection of relevant arcs. I‘d definitely agree on the Umbara-arc and on the arc centered around clone trooper Fives.
I‘d say those arcs, along with the Prequel-movies, give the most context to TBB. I personally didn’t watch the introduction of the Batch in TCW Season 7 before watching their own show and I didn’t feel like I missed much but it definitely doesn’t hurt watching it first, either
Yeah I agree with the others, you should watch TCW along with ROTS before TBB to have an understanding of who all of those characters are and have an easier time connecting with them.
I can think of nothing more discouraging than having to watch through seven seasons of TCW just to know who the characters are. Some of it is pretty plodding and dull.
Early seasons, yeah, but the later seasons are peak Star Wars
What do you think?
