Yeah, it said metal projectiles and the first time I watched this series they looked like bullets. Yeah, they're close enough. Reminds me of a tiny minigun.

In ROTJ Luke also tells Leia “get the gun, point it at the deck!” Also in Andor the Aldhani group calls them “guns” as well. So I think that both terms are possibly synonymous but I’m not 100% sure.

^Pretty much. I think "gun" is just a general term for most range-based weaponries.
