Not really no, if anything the Rebels were screwed if it weren't for the fact that they stumbled upon the Ewoks. The trap would have worked otherwise, the Alliance would have been destroyed and Luke would either be dead, captured or fallen to the dark side.

The Galactic empire is pretty stable. sadly, economy is not touched up on much in the original trilogy, so we don't know how good they were doing.

Not really, no. The battle of Hoth was a huge blow to the Rebellion, leading the Alliance to scatter around the galaxy.

Sadly yes. The Empire was doomed because after the destruction of the Death Star, the rebel alliance convinced the people of the galaxy to stand and fight. And no government can stand against its own people for long.
