TESB. It's a classic, and one of the best star wars movies. RO is great too, but is overrated.
Both are incredibly good. Tough choice, but I’ll stick to the original trilogy. So TESB.
The Empire Strikes Back is one of the most iconic pieces of Cinema in history.
I LOVE Rogue One. I do also enjoy Empire Strikes Back, with the Bespin, Hoth and Asteroid Belt scenes. But, I love intense action over anything else, and Rogue One takes my vote.
My two favourite SW films. Hard to choose but I think, these days, it might be Rogue One.
When I was younger, I wanted a new SW film really badly and I wanted it to have Empire Era stuff with better CGI. I waited for ages and then got the PT, which massively disappointed me.
When RO came out it was what I'd been hoping for all along. So, from my point of view, it scores very high points for making SW great again (along with TFA).
Rogue One is a great film, arguably the best thing to come out of Star Wars since Disney bought Lucasfilm and took over the franchise. But despite my liking of Rogue One, I gotta go with the film many rank as the best Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back. Although, just to point out, both movies are in my top five, with RO being #4 and ESB being #2 thus far.
Again, RO delivered a great movie by detailing what was teased back in 1977, the Rebel victory in which the plans for the Death Star were stolen. It also expanded the universe with more characters, some familiar but mostly new and essential to the story. And there is the infamous hallway scene...not the hallway fight scene, because that would imply that the Rebel soldiers stood a chance against Darth freaking Vader. Another interesting thing is, after finishing RO, I immediately wanted to rewatch A New Hope, which I guess was partly the purpose of the film.
ESB, to steal what others have said, is a classic. It took what was great about A New Hope, expanded the story and lore, making the universe much bigger and better. While the bad guys didn't win here, in comparison to say Revenge of the Sith, there is still a feeling of the good guys having lost with losing Han Solo, Luke's right hand and lightsaber. We also get introduced to characters like Jedi Master Yoda and Lando Calrissian, both very important to SW fans everywhere. Then there's the iconic lightsaber duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, which led to the greatest moment of cinematic history: "I am your father." Sadly, regarding the latter, I got spoiled on courtesy of being a 90s kid who watched too much television, in which "Luke I am your father" was referenced often. But I digress. So with that in mind, my only gripe is that I didn't get to enjoy it in my first viewing like most fans did. Otherwise, a perfect Star Wars movie for any fan. Oh, and did I mention John Williams' score? There's not enough words!
ESB is the better film, but RO is like my most rewatchable SW film by far.
Y’all are making me choose between my two favorites 😭😭
^I feel your pain. Per say. They're not neck-and-neck for me, but in my personal rankings, they are both in my top five favorite Star Wars movies thus far.
Empire because it just is bigger if the 2
