Option #3: I did watch Clone Wars, but Saw Gerrera's role was so small at the time I missed it.
When Rogue One came out Garrera was only in like 3 episodes at the time. Now he is almost everywhere: The Bad Batch, Rebels, Andor, hell even Jedi: Fallen Order.
Justsumtoast, I guess the guy just darkened over time.
J Fan, Saw Gerrera’s character wasn’t popular until Rogue One. A lot of people including myself had no idea that his character actually originated from The Clone Wars before I watched it for the first time in 2020.
^Yeah, I can't speak for all fans who watched The Clone Wars before Rogue One first came out in 2016, as I'm sure the news came out online months or a year before with all the details. Regardless, speaking only for myself, I had to take a refresh course on who the heck "Saw Gerrara" was when it was said he has appeared before...and I was like "Who the hell is this?" Maybe I'd notice if he had appeared in more than 2-3 episodes like Asajj Ventress, Hondo Ohnaka, or Savage Oppress, but understandably so, every character has potential to shine. Although I'm sure the more diehard fans who eat, sleep, and breathe Star Wars content might say different.
In fairness, for me, the Onderon arc wasn't one of my most revisited arcs at the time, so there was no way that I could put two-and-two together back in 2016. Despite the circumstances, 2020 was probably the best time to have a mega Star Wars marathon, catching up and analyzing (or overanalyzing) details I may have missed. And Disney+ of course.
Yes I saw The Clones Wars before watching Rogue One was out
I despise this character. He gets on my nerves so much!
Saw is one of the best Star Wars characters ever and is criminally underrated IMO. He shows a different side of the rebellion. His character portrays what can happen to people who experience real trauma (like war) from a young age. Saw’s character explains that evil doesn’t discriminate and can manifest in anyone, especially those who believe they have good intentions. Saw brings a lot of realism to the Star Wars Universe. Thank you Forest Whitaker for truly elevating this character to a new level.
In fact I think it was Forest Whitaker’s performance in Rogue One that I think helped inspire a great show like Andor to be created.
I had never watched Clone Wars when I saw Rogue One. Then I only next saw him in Bad Batch.
Yeah, Saw is definitely one of the better Star War’s character. He’s not perfect and he does bad stuff but we can all empathize with a guy who lost his sister.
I had watched some clone wars before rogue one came out but I didn’t know Saw Gerrera
What do you think?
