So I'm trying to make a post analyzing MOTW and what types of memes do the best. I need to find types of memes I should split the results into. Do y'all have any ideas?

Maybe you do some “homework “ first and look at some of the top memes and then try to “figure out” why they get the most upvotes compared to other memes.

Then maybe you can start looking at certain categories these reasons fall into. Such as “only a true SW fan would get this” or “favorite PT jokes about Anakin”, or “when real life feels like SW”. Stuff like that.

Then maybe you summarize those categories and give some good examples of each.

The glory days of MOTW are long over. I remember when the winning memes got upwards of 40 likes, and the contests had over 100 submissions. I look at this week's contest, and there's less than 30 submissions and none of them have even 10 likes.

It seems like the glory days of this forum in general are over, I’ve noticed that there’s less posts, replies, votes in polls, community projects being hosted etc than 1-2 years ago. But then again, with inactivity comes peace and stability. This wiki is a lot less argumentative than how I remember before, which is part of the reason I became active here again. So, pros and cons.

I feel like the "glory days" of the forum are over, but also that they'll return eventually. They went when we stopped writing and reading, but instead simply pitting characters against each other, they went when we decided that analysis wasn't nearly as interesting as polling. This is grouchy-old-man talk, but I was here when it happened.

Maybe it's because Star Wars itself isn't producing as much as it used to - Covid was when Visions and the Mandalorian and BoBF and TBB and Andor and so much more happened - we had stuff to talk about and theorise, always something else to ask and discuss. Now that there's simply less content to discuss, we don't.

Maybe it's because the people aren't here any longer. You'd read a post simply because someone you'd respected on the forum had commented on it - you wanted in the discussions then. The guys who used to comment on my stuff, and who's stuff I read in turn simply aren't active anymore, and so my own activity has significantly dropped.

Maybe we're just old lads shouting at clouds for not being the shapes we remember. Maybe we're only complaining because we don't know what to do.

The good times will return eventually, the Forum isn't going to die, nor is Star Wars, no matter what the fearmongers may claim.

Things’ll get better eventually, they always do. There’s always lulls in forum activity. Some valued members leave but new people always take their place.

It’s a busy time rn, at least it is for me. And Star Wars broadly is just not generating much excitement. Enjoy the peace and quiet right now. Things’ll get lively again in December when Skeleton Crew comes out and people get time off for the holidays.
