I also really love Leia’s character, specifically her EU characterization. I love how her feelings towards her father were expanded on in Truce of Bakura and Tatooine Ghost. She eventually accepted that he used to be a good person but she refused to inherit the Skywalker name. Darth Vader had a lasting impact on her beyond that because she was extremely reluctant to become a jedi in the New Republic era. While protecting her children from an assassin she had a brief brush with the dark side and she got a little taste of what it was like to be Darth Vader. This caused her to fully commit herself to the political duties of the New Republic.

Even in her younger years, Leia was always a person who sacrificed her happiness so others might have theirs someday. She even put her grief at losing Alderaan and her family aside for the sake of the rebellion. When she briefly flew as a combat pilot and leader of stealth squadron, she was looked down on by some of her fellow pilots due to her being a princess and not a battle hardened soldier. She didn’t let this deter her and she quickly proved herself to be every bit as good of a soldier as they were. Leia’s resolve to hold on to hope when many others would’ve given up is nothing short of admirable.

Leia’s duties in the New Republic would sometimes overwhelm and cause her to send her kids into hiding, which somewhat strained their relationship with Leia. That being said, Leia went to great lengths to make sure that they knew how much she loved them and how much she didn’t want them to feel neglected. Even though she didn’t lead the life of a jedi to the degree that Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin did she still gave them sage advice when they struggled with their duties as jedi. She helped Jacen discover another way to preserve the lives of others when he temporarily walked away from the life of a Jedi.

Leia, alongside Chewie and R2, is my favourite SW character.

Most of the reasons why are covered but it was incredible at the time of release, for I was born BBY, for my eyes to see a genuinely strong female character who was not written as an adjunct to a male character.

I feel certain that it has impacted on my worldview which has always been disappointed with the under-representation of well-written female roles in TV and cinema.

She is badass but without just 'acting like a man' to justify her inclusion. I am not afraid to admit that I cried when she died in TROS.

Everybody knows Leia Organa is my favourite Star Wars character! I'm agree with you she is very strong, brave, loyal. Maybe sounds crazy, but Leia inspires me so much!

I really like the character of Princess Leia!

In New Hope, Leia embodies peace and justice, she calls her warriors into fight against tyranny - she is looking for the old knight and guardian of peace and justice, but he is too old to do it, but Luke agrees to be trained and replace him and rescue her. It’s worth to note that Leia is often treated interchangably with the fight for democracy and peace and justice: she is imprisoned in a man-made, artificial, militaristic construction, and she is about to be killed. Her natural, green, peaceful world was destroyed, but her followers are waiting for her, in a forgotten temple, in a forest-world. Leia never asks Obi-Wan to save her, but to help the rebellion, but Luke and Obi-Wan are immediately linking saving her with saving the rebellion. Han also needs to be persuaded to help her, at first, he does it for money, then he starts to become interested in her in the same time he becomes interested in helping Luke and the rebels.

And at the end, it's Leia who gets Han out of a frozen sleep, after which he states, "Instead of a big dark blur...I see a big light blur." Which is, as Lucas stated himself, was meant to be metaphorical for Han Solo's transformation from selfish person to a compassionate person.
