In the real world, wood has served as an integral material extremely far back in history. Whether it be building, carving into tools or weapons, or burning as fuel, several types of wood worldwide are considered useful.
Star Wars, too, has lots of wood types! Wookieepedia currently has pages for 22 different varieties of this substance (in the new canon), each with unique qualities for usage in specialized weapons, as food, or for furniture construction. One might think—wood? Who cares! But for those who love weird and wacky topics, Wookieepedia’s coverage of these fun topics will continue to grow. Extremely late at night, I caught the “wood bug” and decided to explore the wiki’s coverage of our articles concerning the topic and found a niche trove of lore to dive into. Pictured below, Gungi's wood lightsaber hilt:
Curiously, one of the types of wood that most appears in the new canon is Wroshyr wood and its variants. The Wookiees were able to use the substance for quite a variety of purposes, and it first made its debut in the new continuity in 2014. Some of Wookieepedia’s most recent status article nominations include blackbark-wood, ebonwood, juglan-wood, neyaoi-wood, oka-wood, and sakai-wood—all written up in the last week or so. Why, you might ask? Editors having way too much fun, I suppose…
Looking for a detailed read? Heartwood was a type of wood favored by Tholothian Jedi for their lightsaber hilts! And—definitely don’t forget the sticks. I’m sure a Chandrilan pilot can be found in a cantina somewhere snacking on a pizo stick, or Yoda’s iconic gimer stick has made another Padawan run for the hills.
Obscure topics such as these are truly something unique to Wookieepedia. I hope at least one of these articles proves interesting to someone, and, many cheers to writing up fun articles. A question for the audience— if you had to pick one curiously obscure article that you wish was fully written up on Wookieepedia, what would it be?
