I would like to add a little more context to my stance on this. Cgi can definitely be used to de-age an actor/actress (for better or worse) but that still doesn’t really prevent their age from showing. There’s only so much Mark Hamill can do at his age and to be portraying him in an era where Luke is only a few years older than he was in ROTJ. His movements aren’t going to be as agile as they were when he was filming the OT. Imo, sooner or later it might be time to start looking for new actors to portray the younger versions of these characters.

I thought de-aging looked odd on Hayden Christensen. Deep fake highpoint was Tarkin but it still looks off. I think I'd prefer to have real actors until deepfakes are so good you can't tell.

For some reason Disney Lucasfilm dropped the bomb for Hayden. A fella on YouTube, on his own time, was able to do a better de aging deepfake.

^Given the fact that the spoiler protocol for that episode isn’t over yet I’m not sure we should be discussing this but yeah I already knew from the moment we saw this scene that de aging wasn’t used here. They really should’ve used it though.

^I think the de-aging high point was DEFINITELY not Tarkin, he looked like a video game character, which makes sense because that was their first shot at it in Star Wars and they were using alternate methods that wasn’t DeepFake. I feel like it’s almost objectively Luke from the Book of Boba Fett, this was after they had hired on a YouTuber who had improved the de-aging they had already implemented in The Mandalorian.

When it comes to the actors getting older @Swatteam123, for the Luke scenes they don’t even use Mark Hamill. They just use another actor for the body and put young Luke’s face on him, and they have this technology that de-ages voices now but also they’ve used voice actors that sound similar, like in Tarkin’s case. So the OG actors don’t even need to be involved.

You are right. I guess I meant for the time in movies. The voice acting for Tarkin was superb. I don't think the progress has been all that good since. Luke wasn't that much better.

Depends. Maybe on small moments or flashbacks, but a full on movie or series with a deepfaked protagonist would look weird.

I mean it depends on the actor

Plus I think Kathleen Kennedy did state about moving away from recasting Legacy characters
