You know, the reason Mace Windu told Anakin to wait in the Council Chambers is because when he got back from killing Darth Sidious, Mace Windu planned on granting Anakin the rank of master.
On top of that Mace Windu told Anakin to wait in the council chambers for other specific reasons such as:
He sensed a lot of turmoil in Anakin and he knew Anakin’s judgement was clouded. This was a conflict that Mace Windu didn’t want Anakin anywhere near because of how close he was to Palpatine.
Mace Windu told him if what Anakin told him was true he will have gained Mace Windu’s trust. This indicated that until this moment Mace Windu didn’t trust Anakin and he still didn’t technically because he used the word “if”. I seriously doubt Mace Windu would speak on Anakin’s behalf in such a manner that he believed Anakin was worthy and ready for the rank of master.

Palpatine requesting Anakin to be his representative on the council already raised a lot of eyebrows with the council and they didn't believe Anakin was ready for the rank of mater because of his emotional turmoil. They might've altogether removed him from the council until he was more emotional stable at the very least.
