Canon luke is. Legends luke is awesome
Agreed
Canon: Oh, yeah... and sadly he's a pretty terrible character too. Literally serving no purpose post RotJ other than to mess up so badly he caused history to repeat itself.
Legends: if anything he's terribly underrated. Truly one of the best of the franchise. He's goes though countless tribulations but always picks himself backup and just tries again. Like Spider-Man, he fails often and is far from perfect, but he has a responsibility and will always try to be a good person.
I feel like he could be but I could be wrong
Legends yes, Canon no.
Luke has always been a bit of a cardboard cut-out for me. I saw the films with the 1977 comics and SotME for EU and I always saw Luke as the boring one, badly acted. Gimme Leia and Chewie any day.
Legends then wrung the piss out of Luke for every last scrap of storyline. Even keeping him alive way past what would be considered sensible to keep the EU marketing machine rolling.
Now Canon Luke is a very much more interesting proposition. I'm really looking forward to his tale leading up to TLJ. Can't wait for the Luke and Lando book next week.
He absolutely is. But I still like him.
I don’t think so, many people like him, but the films are only a small fraction of what’s great about his character.
Post RotJ Luke is such an awesome character that many people don’t really know (aside from his appearance in TLJ).
He might seem overrated if you watch just the films, but his character is so much more than that.
I don't think Canon Luke is overrated (actually, he seems rather underrated if I look at this comment section). He has a great arc in the OT, in my opinion. A well fleshed out character; powerful but not invincible; achieves several successes but not without missteps and failures; shows plenty of flaws as well as likeable traits.
He starts out as a naive, slightly whiny farmboy, as an inexperienced, idealistic dreamer. Then, after gaining more experience, he becomes a more reckless, stubborn, daring, impatient rebel, thinking with his heart rather with his mind. Finally, he ends up calmer, more patient, wiser, as a true Jedi, in the end. His character is shaped by his failures and his triumphs.
The development may be not very noticeable on first sight but it's definitely there. And maybe it even speaks for this character if the development isn't as blatantly noticeable, if it's more fluent
^^^ In cannon a little bit, but in legends no
He is not underrated by any means, but not overrated at all in my opinion.
This is an overall view combining Canon and Legends Luke.
What do you think?
