(if I may speak my opinion) I don't find Mara to be as oversexualised as some other characters *cough cough* talon *cough cough* but I have no idea why she wears her hair out or doesn't have sleeves (it's really impractical) other than aesthetic, so I guess that could be defined as minor sexualisation?
I don't have too much of a problem with sexualising characters, as long as that's not all of their character. Mara still has personality, same goes with Talon, Juno Eclipse, Deliah Blue etc. It only really annoys me when the artist or writer sacrifices personality for looks.
On the brighter side, this doesn't seem to happen as much or at all in modern releases and content.
(also this is kind of getting waaaaayyyyy off topic and we should probably get back on topic or this thread will probably get locked)
^I get why wearing her hair out might be impractical, but what’s impractical about being sleeveless? Lot of G.I.s in Vietnam tore off their sleeves.
^ That is very true, to me having your arms out is not sexulization its just a look she decided to wear, like if she went to a very hot planet like Tatioone why would she wear robes, or a big outfit ? There is nothing wrong with any women or men wearing no sleeves to me.
EDIT: ^^^ How is she cringe, this is a women trying to imitate Mara correct me if im wrong but this is from the Dark Forces game which had live action interpretations of characters like Kyle Katarn , Jerec , and Mara. In my opinion she looks amazing and did a fantastic job. That is kinda disrespectful to call it cringe when this women is just trying to play a character.
^ ^^ In the SW universe I guess you'd have no idea what could be around the corner, angry plants, giant carnivores, toxic air kind of thing. I would have thought it'd be practical to wear longer clothing that covers as much as your skin as possible if you're traveling or fighting - you can always rip it off later, right?
If you are heading somewhere where you know is going to be hot or cold, it'd make sense to dress appropriately. But if you only had one default outfit, I would have thought it'd make sense to have something more... adaptable? Or maybe it's a fashion decision and I'm really really overthinking this lol.
^ You are correct it would make sense lol but I think as long as she is ok with her outfit knowing she can face any of the situations you described it's ok to wear. Luke actually did the same thing in Dagobah with the tank top , he could have been poised or gotten a pretty bad infection. I also say this because Jedi have abilties to fight off different bacteria and infections that come from the environment so I think she should be ok👌.
Good point
Bro I mean the way SW depicts female sexualization just makes me cringe so hard. I have no problem with female sexualization, but the way SW depicts it just makes me cringe.
@Darth Malice24 that pic of Mara Jade is not from the Dark Forces series. Mara’s installment (Mysteries of the Sith) had no live action sequences.
^ ok thank you for the info Do you know where it is originally from ?
I’ve seen it discussed in the Wook before but I can’t remember what media had those real life images of her. It’s not really how I ever pictured her anyway. :)
What do you think?
