^I agree on that. They gave Finn initially something interesting to be explored and then didn't really seem to utilize that potential. My point was rather: just because Finn's potential could have been used better doesn't have to mean that Rey's importance has to be reduced. I think they could have both worked as two equally important main characters, at least TFA gave me the impression that this was what they were going for (originally)
my opinion in relation to this is that the one who should gain more prominence is Ben. I know he and Rey are the two main characters of the trilogy but I feel like Rey (as much as I like her) took some of the prominence that was for Ben, because we're in the Skywalker Saga and he's the Skywalker of both of them. but even so, the dynamics of the two was the best thing about the trilogy for me, and with the revelation that they are both a Dyad in the Force it made everything even cooler.
about Finn, I also don't see how he would be a better protagonist than Rey, if he had a better character arc, maybe! but when I watch The Force Awakens, I feel that the protagonism of this trilogy was "destined" for Ben and Rey. that's because they are the ones who gain more prominence throughout the entire movie, and Finn even who had his influence on the story still remained a "secondary" character in the movie, and this continued until the end of the trilogy for the three characters. and just like @SagaSeeker I really like the idea of a female character as the main character in a trilogy just like Leia was (with Luke) in the original trilogy.
^I do think that TFA focussed more on Rey and Finn being the protagonists with Kylo/Ben being the main antagonist. Though I agree that the other two movies centered more around Rey and Kylo/Ben
Since he was force-sensitive, would he have made a better main character? Wasn't the main character already force-sensitive?
I say that it would been interesting if he was the main character
I think he would have a cool story arc and he would have been a Jedi
As for Rey not sure what her role would have been like
Him screaming Rey all the time was extremely cringe, so it wouldve been better if Finn was the main character. But then Rey might just scream Finn all the time lmao
I thought he was gonna be like the secondary mc alongside ray but they really shoved him aside and also didnt even give ray much character
I feel like Finn would have been cooler considering his background, a former stormtrooper who defects and becomes a Jedi would be a unique and potentially interesting story, depending on how they handled it obviously. With Rey her whole background and overall journey felt too generic and too much like Luke in the OT.
All he made a better dueteragonist than Kyle Ron.
^ Kyle Ron? If that was intentional, lol. If it wasn't, also lol
What do you think?
