@Ctmeh Very few to no fans of EU consider that that way. I wish I could find the quote but Leland Chee (The Holocron Keeper for many years) stated that all of the MARVEL SW 70s and 80s run in considered official. Not necessarily contradicting of other EU, in fact a lot of elements from that storyline are referenced in other things (For example Lumiya in LOTF) and for example (The original name of the New Republic from the comics Federation of Free Planets, or something to that effect, is mentioned in Luke Skywalker Shadows of Mindor.) Scoundrels mentions events from the first several issues focused on Han Solo. The Skytri species are mentioned again, and feature prominently in Skyewalkers: A Tale of Obi-Wan and Anakin. Lumpy from the Holiday Special and later EU novels shows up in the stories. The Nagai are features again in the Legacy comics.
Sure it can be cheesy but it connects to so many other things, that it does not make sense as sub-canon, there is way more connections than contradictions.
SOTME, does have some weird elements to it, but most fans consider it to fit into the timeline. In fact, Razor's Edge mentions some of the events from it. As do a couple of the Rebellion comics if memory serves. Just little mentions. There is 1 glaring contradiction I can think of. The MARVEL comics said that Luke could swim and Leia could not, whilst SOTME said Leia could swim and Luke could not. That bothers me a little, but not enough to overrule the majority of the story fitting in.
