I’m gonna remove them, I won’t have transphobia on my post @Eleanor1138
Well, first off, I haven't read it yet. So no judgment here on her character.
Overall though, It felt inevitable to me that eventually a male Clone would identify as female. Plus with all the fanfic of it, it was only a matter of time until a creator/author at Lucasfilm pulled that trigger.
Honestly I've always been a bit worried though that some on the larger LGBTQA+ community wouldn't like it though. As while it's finally representation that they want, it's also lore that many clones are "defective" though, so it may not be the best representation they want either. Dave Filoni skirted that problem by having Omega be fully female. So no defect and seemingly trying very hard to avoid this very issue. I'm honestly curious how members of the LGBTQA+ community will view it as things settle down. Because 99 and the bad batch bring an "interesting" quandary into this the author might not have intended (or heck, maybe they did... again haven't read it yet)
As a straight man, I honestly have no clue if I'm overthinking this or not, lol, sorry if I am. Anyways I've never had a problem with anyone for their sexual orientation or how they identify either. I just have read a ton of Sci-Fi and Fantasy over the years and seen this debate and lots of opinions on the matter, plus watched them shift over the years. So more curious as to how this one will be treated. I just grew up with shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation where they had that 3 gender species episode that was basically a mix of LGBTQA+ and The Handmaid's Tale. So I grew up with Scifi stories where unique spins were put on real world issues to force people to reexamine things they might be close-minded about (hence why I might be overthinking it). So I guess in this setting I'm just conditioned/trained to compare the fantasy setting and lore of the clones with the real world (again, no offense intended).
I hope for fans who want such a character she's more than just a cameo though... always, feel free to fill me in on your thoughts who have read it. I'm curious on hearing everyone's thoughts and would rather hear from you on this than other places on the internet.
Now, this is more a heads up to the mods and OP, I'm not on social media like Twitter or Facebook. The author of this book does have a few people trying to cancel her and/or boycott her. So this thread might attract more than just transphobic nut cases.
From my limited understanding (not having a Twitter account or Facebook of my own, but seeing lots of Reddit screenshots of them over the years) E K Johnston is a bit of a hot topic, for being super against Reylo and Anakin/Padme (calling them a Nazi Romance. Also has stated Padme is the main character of the Prequels not Anakin (calling him a sidequests in TPM)). Secondly for basically implying Dave Filoni (but not naming him specifically) prevented her from making Ahsoka "biromantic asexual" in her Ahsoka novel (and yes, I'm so straight I had to Google that, lol). Anyways, I don't participate in reddit discussions like that, but I do briefly read them on occasion to see what's going on in the crazy world of social media and Star Wars.
Concerns are understood about transphobic behavior. That stuff is grounds for an instant site-wide ban, so don’t worry at all about seeing any here.
I don't get it, is she a male who identifies as a female clone or is it a female that identifies as a male clone?
Born male, since she’s a clone of Jango, but transitioned to female.
Through some Estrogen-like medicine probably
It brings a very interesting dynamic because it gets cloning so right. Clones, no matter how identical their DNA is, will always be individual unique people. You are not your parent, and they are not you. So I'm actually surprised that there aren't more considering the population.
Yeah, maybe they haven’t realised or were just too focused on the war and losses they had
Possibly, but what I love is that the Clones don't seem to judge and are protective of her, which really takes advantage of the family dynamic. In regards to the Kaminoans, you can make an argument on either side on whether the Kaminoans think of it as a defect, because they were eugenecists, or they thought of it as good because they didn't have to worry about them reproducing. Yes I'm aware trans people can breed, but I am talking about percentage wise.
Yeah
What do you think?
