Palp screwed over his life. Kenobi just happened to cut him in two.
When Kenobi defeated Maul, it caused Darth Sideous to throw away his apprentice, and Maul had an unending rage and lust for revenge on Kenobi for ruining his life.
^^ love how casual that line is - just happened to cut him in two. Kenobi's showing his lightsaber off to some Mandalorian women and Maul walks by...
^^True but it was still Sidious who set Maul on this dark path ever since he was a child. On top of that the moment Maul and his brother tried to build something for themselves it was Sidious not Obi Wan that destroyed it (oh and he killed Savage).
Oh don't get me wrong, Sidious screwed maul over completely, but I think Obi-Wan beating maul in a duel caused Sidious to abandon his apprentice. I would assume maul is angry toward Darth Sidious, but obi wan was the original cause of his pain
Ngl if there’s one poll I truly believed Obi Wan would lose this is that poll 😂
I'm surprised, I felt like it was gonna be close, but Kenobi would be in the lead. I mean, if we just look at Darth Maul throughout the clone wars series and the rebels series, HE WANTED KENOBI D-E-A-D!!!!! But in an honest perspective, Darth Maul would've had a hatred for Sidious no doubt, I just don't think it was as bad as his deposition towards Obi-Wan, because Obi-wan caused Maul to be thrown away by his master, which then caused his anger towards Sidious.
I'd have to go with Obi-Wan. Dealing in Canon, Maul's hate for both stems from the same event which is when he is defeated by Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan doing the real damage and slicing him in half while Palpatine discarded his apprentice as he seems to do. If I were Maul, yes I wouldn't be too happy about Palps abandoning me as if I never existed, but I think it would be more reasonable to dispise the one who is responsible for the reason for the abandonment, which would be Obi-Wan. That is what Maul refers to when he says (or implies) that Obi-Wan took everything from him. He sees what he could have had if he was still with Palpatine and, of course, his legs which would be definitely lift his spirits (pun not intended, lol).
Now, I know things were different in Legends and Legends is your specialty so I can absolutely see where you are coming from. Palps just straight up tortured the poor guy. But like you are a big Legends guy, I'm a big Canon guy, and seeing as both are two different continuities, I'd say both of us are right, because I think, in legends, Palps earned it more. Either way, though, I feel like Maul should have realized that he is the way he is because of Palpatine and realize that he doesn't have to do what Palpatine made him to do, which is to hate and hate with no end.
Great post, Swat! It is very creative and it produced a great discussion. Keep it up, man!
Thanks @Infantry31st ! Btw my responses are also based on his canon interpretation and I definitely agree that their Obi Wan is responsible for Maul's half off sale which started the chain of events known as Maul's miserable life lol. That being said I still believe that Maul's hatred for Obi Wan was mostly self inflicted. When he built his shadow collective on Mandalore it was Sidious, not Kenobi who attacked it. Sidious killed Maul's brother, someone he genuinely loved just because Sidious was like "No rivals for me, thank you" lol.
Then there's the Son of Dathomir comics (I highly recommend those if you haven't read them already) where Sidious orchestrated the very events that lead to Mother Talzin's death. The same mother that Sidious stole Maul from, he also killed. Now Maul has been robbed of everything good in his life. Fast forward to Rebels when Ezra first meets him, I couldn't help but notice that he's listing everything that the Sith, not Jedi, took from him. This conversation makes me feel like went after Kenobi in the end because he felt like it would've been easier than going after Sidious. Obi Wan started a chain of events that lead to Sidious tossing Maul aside but because of everything Sidious directly took from him, I personally believe Sidious deserved Maul's hatred more than Kenobi.
Thank you for your well thought inputs as always!
I misscliked sidious
What do you think?
