How was Rey able to not be found being force sensitive?

This may be a dumb question but it just randomly popped in my head and now it’s bugging me that I can’t figure it out.

If the empire is searching for force sensitive children throughout the galaxy after order 66, how was it that they didn’t find Rey?

I get that it’s a long time after order 66 so maybe they stopped hunting so hard for them at that point?

Maybe there isn’t an official explanation for this but I would love to hear all your thoughts!

^Luke was a pilot, that was pre established. The X wing wasn’t his first ship. The guy was going to try out for the Imperial Fighter Academy. I know that doesn’t mean anything anymore because we all like the incompetent imperial meme but in universe you wouldn’t even consider submitting an application if you didn’t know how to fly. Anakin blowing up that Trade Federation Ship was just bad prequel writing, but don’t revision the OT just to make the sequels seem slightly more palatable.
