Well, if you don't like reading long novels, then I suggest you should go for the comic book version, since it's pretty good.

It takes lots of liberties with character descriptions and is definitely abbreviated.

As an example, this comic is where Pellaeon goes from having being clean shaven to getting a mustache, Ghent suddenly getting blue hair, and Mara Jade going from having a blaster up her sleeve to walking around in tank tops.

I'd go as far as saying, of the new characters, it only got Thrawn and C'Baoth right. Basically it really suffers from an artist who wanted to make everything unique, so they basically just ignore the book much of the time.
