Hello there and welcome back to WoSW! Today's feature will be Hera Syndulla (I've kept it waiting for a while sorry about that) from Rebels, the mother figure to the Ghost crew (and also biological mother to Jacen Syndulla, while I'm not such a fan of his name I love that she had a kid). I might change this to a series without a specific release day, because my schedule has gotten pretty crazy recently. One thing, my notifications are currently bugged so I won't know when people have replied to this, so sorry in advance if anyone has questions. Hope you enjoy!
Summarized biography
Hera Syndulla was born in 29 BBY to parents Cham and Eleni Syndulla. As a little girl, she lived through the Clone Wars, where her father was a key leader and freedom fighter for her homeworld Ryloth. Growing up afterwards during the reign of the Galactic Empire, she was very interested in becoming a pilot and dreamed of living on a starship. Though both she and her father were both rebellious and shared many views, she aspired for galaxy-wide freedom and joined the larger rebel group. This strained their relationship as he wanted her to be a part of the Free Ryloth movement instead of fighting for everyone. After her mother was killed in battle, she became a pilot and left her homeworld in 12 BBY. She met the Jedi Purge survivor Kanan Jarrus and the two of them worked together against the Empire. Eventually forming a larger rebel cell, she helped the early rebel movement. During a mission to Lothal, the orphan Ezra Bridger joined the crew, setting off a series of events (the group was hunted by the Empire, including Darth Vader and the Inquisitors, and eventually joined the Rebel Alliance). They continued to work together for some time and developed a close family dynamic. In the final battle to free Lothal from the Empire, Ezra went missing, and the crew went separate ways. Hera participated in several key battles for the Rebels and raised her and Kanan's son after the fall of the Empire and some of the other members went to look for Ezra, to bring him home.
Why is she underrated?
I love Hera and how she's the mother of the "found family" that is the Ghost crew. I am SUCH a sucker for that trope. To me she isn't exactly underrated as much as not talked about as frequently as other TV characters. She is my second favorite Rebels original character, the first being Sabine, and it would be so cool if she gets some more appearances (I was really excited to see her in TBB). It would be great to see her live action in a show or film. The Ahsoka show is most likely, so here's to hoping she appears alongside Ahsoka, Sabine, and possibly some other characters from Rebels.
Featured quote
"We have hope. Hope that things will get better. And they will." - Season 1
Season 1 was imo the weakest season of Rebels, but it had some great moments and quotes. This is one of Hera's many inspirational quotes but I also like this one, "That was a very useful tray". Yes. Yes it was.
How you can learn more about her
Rebels is her primary appearance, it's a pretty good show and worth watching. There are also some comics that expand a little on it, I haven't read much of them but I've heard plenty of good things from others who have.
A New Dawn is a book set before the show, focusing mainly on Hera and Kanan. I started it a while ago but got distracted by a bunch of other books, so now my goal is to finish it lol.
She has a few appearances in episodes of the show Forces of Destiny as well.
Oh, and she makes an appearance in two episodes of The Bad Batch, we get a little more background on her there. With season 2 coming out I'll be rewatching the entire first season 🙂

Thanks for reading! Next week's featured character will be Deliah Blue from the Legacy comics, as per requests. Many will not know her but she is such an amazing character (I've just finished the comics). Have a great week and MTFBWY!
