@Diamond O'Connel "Nothing is wrong with the Fandom". I don't agree. I think @Shambala108 has a point when saying that the fandom has a problem with respecting opinions that diverge from their own opinions.
Quote from a comment on this thread: "Im sorry to say this I respect your opinion , but its completly false and alteast to me gives off the feeling that you don't know much about either of their characters." To be honest, that doesn't really sound all that respectful to me. How can you be wrong about not liking a particular pairing? There may be some particular parts in the post that could be argued against with objective facts (like Luke never meant to have a romantic interest) but the most part of it (for example, preferring Luke and Mara to stay friends) certainly seems more like a matter of taste. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing and stating your arguments for your own opinion but it seems questionable to simply undermine the other one's opinion by saying they have no idea what they are talking about.
If there's nothing wrong with the fandom, how come that the SW-fandom is known as one of the most toxic fandoms of bigger franchises? How come that it's known for bullying people related in any way to SW (actors, directors, other fans) of any possible SW-era (OT vs. PT, PT vs. ST, Canon vs. Legends)?
Although the Wook is a pretty safe spot for SW-fans of all kinds since the mods do a great job at maintaining an overall harmonic climate, I've more than once come across comments that start with "I respect your opinion" and end with a backhanded, dismissive remark about the other user's tastes or something similar. Like in this case... "I respect your opinion, but clearly, you haven't read enough to form a (valid) opinion". Maybe the comment (and it's not just the one cited) wasn't intended to come off as dismissive but it could be read like that.
You could say that it's only a minority that's really toxic but it seems to me that such casual dismissive comments can be posted even by more level-headed users. To oneself, it might not sound all that disrespectful but it might come across like that. I suppose part of this problem is that people take sometimes some things too personal which can quickly lead to heated arguments. It's just something one should pay attention to rather than ignore it. So, I really don't agree that there is nothing wrong with the fandom
