Another theory I've heard is that Goliath had a condition called Acromegaly

Basically it makes you a giant but also makes you exceedingly clumsy and half-blind (As referenced by the fact Goliath a) needs an attendant and b) thinks David's sling is two sticks)

Meanwhile David, being a practiced man with his sling (his regular job required it) would be able to deck Goliath in a single shot regardless of power, because slings hurt.

I doubt if David knew that the murderous giant he was facing suffered from “Acromegaly”.
