So a Force Adept then? That’s a term I personally define Ahsoka after she left the Jedi
^^Interesting. What makes you think that it's not in Ezra's nature to be a proper Jedi? Unlike Ahsoka, neither he nor Kanan had bad experiences with the Jedi which could make them turn their back on their teachings. And seeing that they aren't the only ones trying to uphold their Jedi heritage (there are also Cal Kestis, Luke Skywalker etc.), I don't really see why Ezra wouldn't hold on to the Jedi Code.
Then again, seeing that Ezra received teachings from very different people, it's indeed possible that he doesn't follow the usual path of a Jedi
@SagaSeeker You make a fair point! My thinking was that Ezra, not having as close connection to the original order as those who were raised in it, probably wouldn't follow the code as closely as say, Cal, Kanan, and others - but still obey its general "vibe".
It also depends on what he's been up to in the period between Rebels and Ahsoka (which is assuming that's when we see him next). I hope that he stays fairly similar to how we saw him in Rebels, but I don't want to rule out the possibility of Kanan's death (and maybe other factors) could have pushed him closer to the dark side. I really hope they stay away from this, as that'd undo his character arc of S3, but I don't want to rule it out altogether. I guess, like most things in life, we just have to wait and see.
I speculate he could turn out to be more of a light sider who follow some Jedi principles rather than a Jedi per se. As others above have pointed out, Kanan’s teachings to Ezra were made in a period in which the Order as an institution didn’t exist anymore, besides, when Order 66, Kanan - back then Caleb - was no more than a padawan.
Therefore, his methodology can’t be compared on how Yoda taught Luke, even if the philosophy was the same. That’s why Luke after the war wanted to restore the Jedi Order of old, while Kanan just wanted Ezra to survive and follow the path of light, doing the right thing and for the greater good. Jedi also follow these tenets, but you don’t need to be necessarily one to follow them too.
This is why I believe Ezra. - after his time alongside Thrawn - would probably turn out to be a light sider like Ahsoka, with no affiliation to any institution but committed with the greater good. And I honestly wish for him to have evolved thanks to that, because I never liked his character in Rebels, lol.
@Lord Lothcat That's a good argument about Ezra not having such a close connection to the old order since he didn't grow up with them, indeed.
And yeah, I, too, hope that they don't portray Ezra as somebody staggering to the dark side. As you said, he already learnt his lesson in Season 3 and I personally don't really feel excited at the idea of seeing another Jedi who was last shown to be a promising advocate of the light turn up as an older, bitter version of his younger one
Hopefully they don't make him a 'gray jedi' lmao
I don’t know, can you repeat the question?
I always thought yes, but I don't really know...
Lots of interesting points made but one that hasn't been brought up yet is that loyalty to Kanan and his sacrifice might make Ezra lean more towards following the order, out of respect for his former master. Depending, of course, on what he's been through since we last saw him.
It's between a yes and a maybe
I read an article where it stated why Luke was called The Last Jedi in Episode VI when Ahsoka and Ezra were still around
It stated that Ezra might have done things where he is in the unknown regions to survive. This might have made him do something that he is no longer consider a Jedi in order to survive the place he is at
What do you think?
