ANH has been remade, once with the special editions and then an homage in TFA.
Remakes in general just seem pointless to me, no matter whether or not I liked the original. Updating effects and so on is different but ultimately comes down to the same problem: the movie is what it is; just leave it be.
Like I said, they should just give the entire trilogy better and renewed graphics rather than remaking it entirely.
Mostly. Some have been poor relations, Total Recall, Robocop, Lion King, Solaris, Psycho.
But some have been amazing, Dune, Planet of the Apes, It, Lord of the Rings.
It usually depends on whether they are any good.
^They’re hardly remakes. Dune and LotR are just multiple adaptations of the same novel.
Ralph Bakshi made an animated LotR in 1978 and David Lynch adapted Dune in 1984.
They were both great.
I know but they’re separate adaptations not remakes.
Most of those I have mentioned are book adaptations. I don't consider the difference between remakes and multiple adaptations big enough to matter unless the adaptations are wildly different. Which the ones I mentioned aren't except for Total Recall/We can rember it for you wholesale. The film has been made and then remade.
To hate an idea that it’s simply hypothetical is scary to me. SW is just a fictional work, not a political ideology, ffs.
That said, it’s important to remember that Hollywood is the greatest and most impactful entertainment industry of the world, and a huge percentage of its machinery is based on blockbusters with an enormous influence on the popular culture. That’s why is so important for them to keep those franchises - whether they are film adaptations or original ones - alive as long as possible, whether is with reboots or remakes.
I can perfectly see the OT being remade in a matter of decades from now, being justified by the reasons I presented. Whether it’ll be Disney or not, that remains to be seen, but it’s not a far fetched idea if, in 2077, they decide to remake the OT for the centenary of the franchise, but with all the technology of this future time. I’m not sure if I’d be alive until then, as well as I have no idea how the state of cinema and the seventh art will be in fifty-five years, nor I’d dare to predict if the franchise will remain as popular as it is today, but I’m sure I’d watch it anyways.

They remade the day the earth stood still and that wasn’t a bad remake
What do you think?
