Results
Now we have a brief description of the top 4 droids and their route to the semi finals.
In 4th position, came Droideka. Droideka won their polls in rounds 1 and 2 of the group stages. They came 1st in their group and automatically qualified for the next round. They faced L3-37 and won in the last 16, allowing them to proceed to the quarter finals. There they went up against IG-11 and won again. In the semi finals they suffered an unfortunate loss at the hands of K-2SO. Sadly Droideka could not beat C-3PO to the final spot on the podium, and had to settle for 4th. Droideka has never been in Droid of the Year Award before, so this result isn’t bad for Droideka’s first time.
Next, C-3PO managed to get 3rd position. He beat WA-7 waitress droid in round 1 and PZ-4CO in round 2 to qualify for the knockout stages. In the last 16 he beat HK-47, and then also beat AZI-345211896246498721347 in the quarter finals. However, C-3PO lost their semi final against R2-D2. He then proceeded to the bronze final and denied Droideka 3rd position. C-3PO came 2nd in both the previous editions of Droid of the Year Award.
The runner up of the tournament was K-2SO. After winning 2 polls in the group stages, he qualified for the last 16, where he obliterated BB-8. In the quarter finals he managed to sneak past Third generation design Dark Trooper, qualifying him for the semi finals. He took on Droideka and came out on top, giving him the chance to beat R2-D2 and win Droid of the Year Award. However, he lost and went home with just a silver medal. K-2SO came 3rd in both Droid of the Year Award 2020 and 2021, so this is his best result.
Finally, in 1st position, came R2-D2! R2-D2 has already won 2 editions of the tournament, so next year he will likely not be participating. R2 beat Huyang and IT-000 interrogator droid in the group stages, before dominating polls against C1-10P / Chopper, BD-1 and C-3PO in the knockout stages to qualify for the finals. In the finals R2-D2 attempted to beat K-2SO and succeeded. Once again, R2 was able to win the Droid of the Year Award. Now with 3 titles to his name, he can finally retire from Droid of the Year Award.
