^^^Yea. when the prequels were being made the OT fans would shit on them, now the Prequel fans bully on the Sequel fans, and if there's another trilogy in the making the Sequel fans might antagonize them, and it's probably going to keep going lmao.

But honestly, if I were Rey I wouldn't take a name with a reputation that is already prestigious, that would just be too easy in life. Her taking the name that would give her all the things she needed in life completely compromises the strong and independent character that the creators of Rey were going for. They are also promoting the action of disowning your family regardless of what they did, if my mom was abusive (and she isn't, deff #1 mom), I'm not going to disown her or change my last name. If Rey had kept the last name Palpatine, and change the reputation of the most feared family in the galaxy, to the most loved that would've been a great ending.

If Rey had married a Skywalker it would've been different tho 😂

A lot of older ANH and ESB fans were less than impressed with ROTJ, specifically Ewoks.

Little 6 Yr old me, who thought Ewoks were badass freedom fighters couldn't understand why the grown ups were talking about how SW was ruined. Which has become as much of a SW tradition as bad dialogue and acting. Which, imo, is something that Disney has massively improved upon.

Yea that's the thing, the actors in the Sequels actually had good acting, but it's severely outshined by the horrid writing. Despite the many asspulls with Rey and plot convenience, Daisy Ridley and other actors still had great acting, the dialogue wasn't as good but compared to the prequels and the OT it was an upgrade.

I meant no harm with my post I thought I’d just make a harmless post about the strongest female Star Wars character and I put Rey Palpatine so I’m sorry for everyone I offended but all in all I loved reading everyone’s opinion and it changed my own viewpoint I still think she is a Palpatine but it made me see their side of the argument so yeah…

I should probably also say, my first comment on the aforementioned thread was not written in the best way. My apologies, as it was one of the comments that fueled the argument.

I think Rey has a claim to it. After all, she has a deep connection with the Skywalkers, Princess Leia was like a mother to her, and she trained with Luke for so long and even lived with him. Then she learns that her surname is Palpatine and that she's connected to not only a Sith Lord, but to the Emperor who turned the Republic into a dictatorship and killed millions of people. The entire universe despises the name "Palpatine" just as we might despise another name from an evil guy in World War 2 who I'm sure we all know. In the end, she probably doesn't want to feel connected to the guy who could be considered a genocidal sociopath, and neither would I. Since Luke and Leia are constantly watching over her like true parents, as the ending scene shows, it's only right to think that she is a Skywalker, because that is the name she chose for herself. It's also symbolic, because she has chosen to carry on the legacy of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, as well as the good side of Anakin Skywalker. She's going to rebuild the Jedi Order and protect the universe. Seems like the name makes sense to me. Luke and Liea had no issue with it, and her motives for doing it are fine. Family isn't your blood. Family is your bonds, and we pass on far more than just genes to our children, whether they're adopted or not. That is what I think the message of "Rey Skywalker" is. Rey is a Skywalker, because she chooses them, and they chose her. She's family.

And the elephant in the room being that anyone on this Fandom could legally change their name to anything they like. There are people in the real world that have renamed themselves Luke Skywalker. But for some reason, some people won't have it that Rey could call herself Skywalker.
