Be creative, bring her in. There are 30 years to work with. The Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War were very short compared to that.
Whatever happens please don't let Luke define her existence. She's way too cool for that whiny little goody two-shoes anyway. Maybe we could get a decent Wook page picture too. To replace the ridiculous fetish leather she's been stuffed into.
^ I second that. Resuming Mara’s reason of existence solely to serve as Luke’s love interest, in my modest opinion, is a closed mindset and limiting thinking. At the end of the day, Mara’s character will depend on how the writer interprets her and the context in which she’s settled. Zahn wrote her in a way, Denning took another direction, etc. The same reasoning applies to every fictional character of any pop culture franchise. Obviously, nobody is obligated to like said version of the character, and all constructive criticism is valid. What is ludicrous, however, it’s when one says that said version of the character is “bad” or is “wrong” because one doesn’t like it. This kind of mentality is poisonous and insidious.
For real, no character belongs to anyone else besides of the company that hosts them, and it’s part of one’s maturation as a fan to acknowledge that the standard of quality of a product goes deeper and beyond than my simple like or dislike of it. Moreover, it’s not part of SW to make constant adaptations from one media to another as its modus operandi. Unlike other IP’s of pop culture, SW was born in the seventh art and later expanded itself on the literature field. Novelizations and comic adaptations are more of an extension of said story, but either illustrated - the drawer displaying in a comic what a paragraph of a novel described - or made into prose - expanding the thinking process of a character from a film or series.
Concluding: the more I think about it, the less I’m wishing for a full adaptation of the Old Republic stories. Canon can be perfectly inspired by it, but it should seek to make its own thing, more or less like it's already happening with the High Republic. And even though I wouldn’t oppose for that to happen and would be glad with it, it would never be exactly the same, the comparisons would be inevitable, and so the backlash. I’m more open than ever now to welcome a brand new story to Revan, for example, rather than simply wishing for the full canonization of KOTOR. And all of what I said before applies to Mara. She doesn’t need anyone else to justify her existence, and the potential her character has is immense, not only for the Imperial Era, but also - and especially - post-Episode VI.
In current canon? This probably wouldn't work tbh.
Idk
@Ajjviolin96 Agreed. Let's mix the pot. We don't need the same stories retold. The opportunity is there to recast old favourites, bring them up to date, subvert their stories, whatever. Bring the new.
Unless someone is going to make a verbatim screen version of the Zayne Carrick KOTOR stories. Then I'll happily abandon all of the principles espoused above.
I feel like it would be a good character to incorporate into the current storyline however I feel like Disney will butcher her
It could be like Captain marvel coming back and saying “where’s fury” but Luke Instead
Sure that would be nice to see her
Though they would have to change her since Luke isn't around
Yes but not married to Luke. Him being an asexual monk has lowkey been my headcanon for a while and I'd like actual can to match it.
As much as I find Mara Jade to be a really interesting character, I feel as if it would be really complicated to bring her into canon.
What do you think?
