Happy Monday (at least where I live) everyone, and welcome back to Women of Star Wars! Before we start, I want to thank everyone who voted for this to become a community project, I’m so grateful for your continued support of my series (which I thought was dumb when I started, lol). Today’s featured character is Kiwu’tro’owmis aka Wutroow, a character from the Thrawn Ascendancy series. A little warning in advance, I did not have a Wook biography to base mine on this time so I just listed some important facts about her. I’m working on my bio writing skills, so I can probably state that my future improvised ones will be better. We’re lucky enough to have another special fanart this week, by resident artist @Eleanor1138. Hope you enjoy!
Summarized biography (facts)
Wutroow served under Ar’alani (week 5) in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet. She was first officer of the ship Vigilant.
She participated in many battles during the efforts against the Grysks (enemy species also from the Unknown Regions), often along with Ar’alani and future Grand Admiral Thrawn.
After the final battle against the Grysk leader she and everyone else who participated in the fight were going to be punished for breaking the Chiss policy against preemptive strikes and many other rules. However, everyone was able to keep their positions after Thrawn took the fall and was exiled.
After this, presumably she continued serving under Ar’alani or later was promoted.
Why is she underrated?
You’ve already heard the “she’s a book character, plenty of people don’t know book characters” argument. While that is true for most of the SW fans I know, there are plenty of reasons why Wutroow should be more recognized. First, she’s a fun character and has some great dialogue lines, I’ve included some below. Also, while the book series she appears in mostly focuses on the main characters and not so much the supporting cast, all of them still contribute a lot to the success of the plot and the protagonists. I might feature some of the others in future posts, there are a lot of awesome female characters in this series and in the other canon Thrawn trilogy.
Featured quote
“This is bogus. Totally bogus. Bogus to the tenth, factorial.”
“In that case, it’s bogus to the tenth factorial. There was a good reason why he disobeyed your order. Plus his plan worked.”
These two quotes are her first lines of dialogue. She makes a pretty cool first impression, lol. Plus, the second one basically sums up the mindset of everyone who’s worked with Thrawn.
How to learn more about her
Read the Ascendancy books, they’re really good and fill in a lot of the Unknown Regions plot, as well as the backstory of Thrawn. The supporting cast is one of my favorite parts, which includes Wutroow. They all have such unique personalities and these all fit together perfectly. Also, since some elements of the Unknown Regions storyline might appear in future SW content, these books might help you understand it a little better.
Your opinion matters too!
What are your own thoughts on Wutroow? Underrated or overrated? Like or dislike? Share anything you want to say about her in the comments.
Thanks for reading! Next week’s entry will be on Hera Syndulla, who many people probably know. I’m progressing through my list of scheduled people so feel free to share any new suggestions, and MTFBWY all!
