I just finished the book today. Loved it!
It seems like Mike Chen mentioned a few things from the legends continuity;
As you mentioned Mace Windu and Dantooine; there isn’t a mention on how long the battle there went on or if there was more than one battle on Dantooine.
Another subtle reference I immediately connected was Ki-Adi-Mundi has a scar from his encounter with General Grievous, which could be Hypori but it wasn’t specifically stated. Just that it was from an encounter with Grievous.
Another Legends character that made a small appearance was Siri Tachi at the Knighting Ceremony indicating she had a Padawan being elevated to Knighthood. Could be Ferus Olin or it could be a whole other character but as soon as I saw her name I was hoping Ferus Olin would be mentioned. And also Olana Chion was named dropped as another Padawan being Knighted.
The storyline was a 10/10 in my opinion. Only disappointment was the epilogue wasn’t Mill Alibeth. A flashforward to the Attack on the Temple witnessing Anakin killing the Jedi would’ve been cool and possibly her escaping. Mill Alibeth was pretty cool. While I like the path she took, I do hope she does make a lightsaber. While Anakin and Mill’s connection is different than Anakin’s and Ahsoka’s, it shows Anakin was fit to teach even if he didn’t want to.
Mace Windu’s attitude towards Anakin was a great touch. How it had began immediately and not just in the Clone Wars or in Episode III. Makes you wonder even more how things may have gone differently if Obi-Wan or Yoda were on Coruscant when Palpatine reveals he is a Sith to Anakin.
Obi-Wan, of course, was a standout. His thoughts on Anakin and Padmé, Him and Satine, him and Anakin, Qui-Gon, him being on the council all of it was great. It also shows that he suspected Anakin and Padmé early on but kept it quiet even when he thought he should inform the council.
As I said I give the book a 10/10.
