Kotor II did not age as well as Kotor did, mainly due to the bugs and stuff. I don't think they kept the Sion vs Nihilus fight either. I wish they could have expanded on Nihilus and Sion because they focused mainly on Kreia. I believe the game feels unfinished due to time constraints. The ending is just vague (good or bad depending how you see it), so you can have multiple possibilities what you and and your crew goes next

Anyways, nice essay but you should play KOTOR II with the restored content mod or it will feel unfinished

The mods help keep Kotor II floating properly. Believe me, the youtube videos will make it seem like Kreia is super cool and wise, but it will take a while for anyone to get used to her

I tried playing Kotor recently and I’m sorry, I absolutely hate it. It really isn’t for me. The gameplay, the characters, the fact that other games from the same era have better graphics, I really don’t understand the hype, even compared to other RPG’s.

Kotor II has more possibilities, more character interactions, characters will gain or lose respect for you depending on your actions. I like that about it

Frankly, Kotor and Kotor II has the worst beginning parts I have ever seen. They pick up pace when you get out of the first two areas

I will always love both games but I love the second more. The atmosphere of the game is ridiculously fantastic, I love how creepy some pieces of the game can be, and how it depicts a more dystopian future. Each planet has disturbing issues that you won't fix as the player.

The music is also on par with the movies in how well it connects to the material. The music is always so creepy and foreboding, and yet it sounds so good that I listen to it every few days.

The story is also great. The battle between light and dark is thrown out in favor of a more meta story of why the light and dark fight and the true path to peace. There's no clear twist in the game and yet by the end you see the story completely differently than when you started.

Many may say that the opening is weak but I have to disagree. The first time I played the game, I loved the mystery. What happened to the facility was extremely intriguing to me. Although mods may improve the experience, I really think it's already a great game to begin with.

Oh and I've gotta disagree with the graphics being subpar for 2004. The model detail is fantastic compared to almost any other game from that era.

I prefer the story of the first game, while I prefer the gameplay of the second. In my opinion, KOTOR 1 tells the best story in all of Star Wars, better than the movies even. The side characters like Carth, Ordo, Mission, and Bastilla are really enjoyable, and I like how literally everything that happens is up to the player. However it’s gameplay mechanics—specifically combat—is not good, to say the least.

I also love KOTOR 2, but not to the degree of the first one. KOTOR 2 has better villains—albeit less iconic in my opinion—than the first game, Visas Marr has a really cool arc, and the gameplay is tweaked to be a little better. Combat isn’t just a bunch of “missed” notifications, so it goes a lot faster. However, the story is not quite as memorable as KOTOR 1, the protagonist isn’t as good as Revan, and aside from Marr and the return of Ordo the side characters are not great. Still a great game though
