Why was the First Order-Resistance War so short?

According to Wookieepedia, the First Order-Resistance War was a "year long pan-galactic war". I find it hard that the destruction of two governments to happen so shortly. It seems like the First Order dissolved overnight. What about the remaining First Order generals and admirals vying for power? Were they just supposed to surrender themselves to the New Republic? Both Canon and Legends said it took a while for Imperial warlords to stop, in fact, to my knowledge, in Legends the Empire never ceased to exist, and just evolved. So why doesn't Canon go into detail about the fall of the First Order? It would've made sense if the war lasted for 4 years, the real life time gap between The Force Awakens and Rise of Skywalker, so things would have a realistic time frame. So, why do you guys think the First Order-Resistance War so short? Share your thoughts in the comments.

There's still a chance it'll appear in the future. We haven't had any content after TROS. All TROS shows specifically is the First Order loosing a few Star Destroyers

Until we get post Episode 9 content which is a sure thing, the war officially ends in 35 ABY. I fully expect there to be First Order holdouts to prolong the war just as there were with the Empire after Endor. The takeaway from the shots with the collapsing Resurgent-class Star Destroyers is that the galaxy was finally rising up, not that the war was necessary over.

I always took it as ongoing as of the end of tros. Sure, it’s leadership is destroyed but the First Order will not fall overnight.

I think we will continue with the war post episode 9

The galactic civil war didn't end after the return of the Jedi so why should this one

Id just like to see a balkanised galaxy full of small new republic factions or a split between sith eternal and first order members

Just make it as hellishly complicated and I'll love it
