Welcome to the official discussion for Rebels, S2E16, “Homecoming”.
Plot Summary:
This episode starts out with the Ghost and several other ships being chased by a Star Destroyer. Zeb completes a cargo transfer, and the ships prepare to jump, but one of the fighters is hit, and the fleet has to leave without it.
While traveling through hyperspace, Hera expresses her concern over the fleet, which is losing fighters too fast. Sato suggests that they work with a cell near Ryloth to hijack an imperial carrier.
Hera contacts the cell's leader, Cham Syndulla. “Father, we need to talk,” she says. A little bit later, Cham arrives. Cham, along with two other rebels, Gobi and Numa, and Hera introduces him to the Ghost Crew. But the friendly negotiations end there, as the parties differ on what to do with the carrier. Cham wants to blow it up, as a symbol for Ryloth. Hera wants to take it for the Rebellion. In the end, Cham agrees to help Hera.
While traveling to the destroyer, Ezra asks Hera what happened with her and Cham. She tells Ezra that ever since her mother died, Cham had only cared about freeing Ryloth. Cham interrupts them to say that they are ready for action. Cham's ship, carrying a stolen Tie bomber, along with two rebel fighters, spring into hyperspace.
While they are flying, Kanan tries to make small talk with Cham, but it annoys Hera. When they approach the Light Cruiser, the Rebel pilots come out and pretend to shoot at the Tie, and the Rebels sneak on through guise of an emergency landing. When Sabine recovers from the landing, she sees a bag of explosives, and realizes Cham has betrayed them too late, when everyone is stunned. The three Twi'leks manage to fight off some stormtroopers, as the Ghost Crew wakes up. Hera decides to foil her father's plans. Zeb and Sabine sneak up on Numa and Gobi, only for more stormtroopers to arrive. Kanan and Ezra get Hera through some blast doors, to Cham.
With time running out for Zeb and Sabine, they capture and reprogram a mouse droid, and rig it to knock out Numa and Gobi. Ezra uses a mind trick to make the captan abandon ship. Chopper attempts to jump, but Cham has deactivated the hyperdrive. Hera and Cham once again argue, and at the same to imperial reinforcements arrive. With no time to spare, the Rebels team up, and, although not without a fight, defeat the reinforcements. One bomb comes to near the controls, and only with Cham's help can Hera stabilize the ship. One Star Destroyer enters, and the Rebels blow it up by putting the charges in a tie and sending it near the bomber. With the Destroyer gone, the Rebels blast into Hyperspace.
Back with the main fleet, Cham and Hera share a tender moment. The episode ends with Cham's ship blasting into hyperspace.
My thoughts:
It was so sweet to see Cham and Hera forgive each other. Rebels handles the family storylines extremely well.
It was very subtle, but I noticed Hera speaking in an accent a little closer to the Twi'lek accent when she was with Cham.
R.I.P poor, random mouse droid.
Kanan trying to impress Cham just annoyed me for some reason. That was the one part of this episode that I didn't like.
I think this episode, for me, is a 9.5/10.
