TROS ruins TLJ but TLJ makes Luke's character really interesting so TLJ.
I really like TLJ as a movie (not necessarily a SW movie). It had a unique plot, the visuals were incredible, and in my humble opinion, it was the only ST movie that wasn't overly fan-servicey. And I have a soft spot for the ice foxes. 5.5/10.
The only reason I lean towards negativity regarding the sequels is the last half of TROS. I love the first half. The visuals, the pacing, it all feels ok. It starts to go downhill at Endor and I never could really follow it after that. I do like the closing scene though. 2/10.
^ I feel the opposite towards TROS, I think the first half is very rushed but I love the last half. And it’s Kef-Bir not Endor.
TLJ, but not by much.
TLJ kinda ruined the interesting ideas TFA set up, like Phasma and Snoke, but it did have the Porgs (oh and also it had less fanservice but I enjoy Porgs). It also was consistent (besides the one part of the throne room battle with the digitally removed dagger, but that doesn't directly involve the plot), so overall, it was ok, I guess.
TRoS was a mess. Oh, what's that? Palpatine wanted Kylo Ren to kill Rey at the beginning of the film, but then he was like "nO, i wAnT YoU To bRiNg rEy tO Me nOw" later on? That's pretty weird-OH WAIT, they brought back Papa Palpatine using the power of lame excuses?! That's pretty sussy, ngl! What's that you're saying? The Knights of Ren returned, but they don't do anything besides have a bad fight scene with the newly reformed Ben Solo? That's not nice! Oh wait, what are those vocals I heard coming out of your mouth and into my ears, allowing me to translate them? They retconned the stuff about Rey's parents to show that they were good people, and that the dad was a Papa Palpatine clone? That's very bad!
Still it was ok but I preferred TLJ
I don't like either of them but I will absolutely admit that as a movie TLJ is actually very good.
It's not really a good Star Wars movie but just on its own it's fine.
TROS is just a jumbled mess.
^ A good Star Wars movie and a good movie should not be viewed as 2 different things.
^ Unfortunately, that is not the world we live in.
Case in point, I've seen arguments made that Abrams' Star Trek movies feel arguably more Star Wars than Star Trek.
Because Star Wars movies play into a surprisingly specific collection of tropes, mostly revolving around having relatively understandable plot lines that move in ways that, while you don't necessarily expect, can be followed as a whole.
TLJ, which was all about subverting common tropes, screws with that something fierce, because it makes it not a particularly simplistic film.
And that's very much not Star Wars.
^ JJ Abrams Star Trek is simply a great film
I like both movies
After watching the force awakens, I refuse to see the next two.
What do you think?
