Welcome to the official discussion for Rebels, S2, E15 “The Call”. Let's get started!
Plot Summary:
This episode starts out with the Ghost, low on fuel and as a result with little heat, looking to steal some fuel from an asteroid field. Ezra hears a strange noise, though the rest of the crew has no idea what he is talking about, until Sabine, looking up, sees several creatures approaching. As the creatures move past the ship, they knock it around a bit. “Brace yourselves!” Hera shouts. The Ghost crew has a tense conversation about whether or not to fight the creatures, who are called Purrgil. In the end, the Ghost flies with the Purrgil, and everyone calms down, for a moment. While Kanan and Hera argue, Ezra senses that the Purrgil are getting upset again. Although Kanan suggests that Hera is upsetting them, two TIEs enter the sector, and they are the evident cause. Ezra and Kanan each shoot down a TIE. The Purrgil turn around, and the Ghost follows them, even though Hera is still reluctant to. In a conversation with Ezra, Hera confides to Ezra how much she hates Purrgil. The Purrgil drop into a crater filled with a blue gas, and with a refinery, which the Ghost is looking for, at one side. With their fuel running really low, they drop into an asteroid right above the refinery. Ezra, Kanan, and Sabine jump down onto the refinery, and during the fall, Ezra gets to see a Purrgil up close. When they land, several miners see them, and Sabine tries to create a distraction by dropping detonators, but Ezra stops her, saying that it will hurt the Purrgil. Ezra uses one of the guns against the miners, and secures the landing platform. With the last of their fuel, Hera lands on the platform. Meanwhile, Ezra watches a Purrgil drop down into the gas and come out. At Kanan's request, he goes back to the gun, but in the ensuing fight with a miner, gets knocked off the platform.
While the rest of the crew continues to battle, Kanan tries to get back to Ezra, who, with his helmet knocked off, has passed out. He is fortunate to be on top of a Purrgil. The Purrgil's eyes begin to glow, and Ezra sees something in them. Another Purrgil grabs Ezra's helmet and gives to him.
Meanwhile the Ghost is surrounded in TIEs. Suddenly the Purrgil jump out and start destroying the TIEs. With the fuel on board and a clear escape route, the Ghost takes off. Ezra jumps onto it from the Purrgil. Instead of blowing up the gas and the refinery, they blow up just the refinery.
The crew watches as the Purrgil jump into hyperspace, and, as Hera has changed her opinion, decide to follow them.
My thoughts:
To me, there were two things in this episode that did not make sense. Why do the Purrgil look like they are breathing even in space? At the beginning, the Ghost clearly has some sort of communication system on, and it feels like they would have turned that off to conserve power. Who knows?
Purrgil are really cool. I wonder if we will see them again?
Other than that, nothing really stood out to me. A normal episode, if you ask me.
So, what are your thoughts on “The Call”? Good, bad, or just meh? Did anything stand out? Comment below; we'd love to hear your opinion.
