It seems to me that most can agree that the Darkness of Umbara is one of Star Wars the Clone Wars’s best arcs, but why is that for you?
For me what set it apart was the opening where all of the clones in hundreds of gunships evade incoming fire from the ground. When they hit the ground the green light comes on and they all charge towards the enemy. It kind of reminds me of D-Day there.
The other important factor is that this is all done in a single movement without any cuts to after the battle. It shows how real the Clone Wars were. A lot of the time we were just put straight into the action when episodes started, but this one was different.
Then after all of that Pong Krell shows up. And we all know what he was like.
It took our expectations on where the episode was supposed to go and turned it around in another direction. To “At what point should a soldier stop obeying bad orders?” This was intriguing. Krell put clones in bad situations and made horrible Decisions that cost far too many lives, and he was the perfect antagonist. Especially after he set the 501st and 212th on each other. Man I just wanted to punch him straight in his evil face!
Its just Star Wars at its best to me. You can’t get much better than this arc. It’s also where Rex became a favorite to me, and all the clones more human and real.
Well I'm rambling again. And I also feel bad for taking up yall’s time if you chose to read all of this. I hope it was worth it for you, and as always, I look forward to seeing what y’all have to say below!
