I wholeheartedly agree about Yoda! He is one of my favorite Star Wars-characters as well.

I personally don't have a specific favorite character, I just have too many of them. However, two of my top favorites are Qui-Gon and Shmi (although we don't get to see a lot of either of them). Both of them strike me as wise, humble, patient characters. Qui-Gon always seemed like a good role-model, like a great jedi to me. And Shmi is impressive on her own, in my opinion: she had a really hard life, yet she always seemed so kind and patient and never seemed to be bitter. Although her son was probably the only bright spot in her life, she was willing to let him join the Jedi Order because she wanted just the best for him. From what I've seen, she represents love as encouraged by the Jedi: selfless, unattached, well-meaning. She's such a contrast to her son. I love the quote: "You can't stop change, just as you can't stop the suns from setting". Although simple, it basically sums up her personality: she accepts change, even for the worse, and doesn't cling on to the past.

Oh, and while I liked both characters from the start, Shmi only became a favorite character of mine after a couple of times rewatching "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones"

@SagaSeeker I guess I never really stopped to think about Shmi. You are the first person that I know to call Shmi a favorite Star Wars Character. That’s cool that you have noticed these things and enjoyed her so much.

You don’t need to apologize at all. It’s perfectly normal and fine to switch preferences from time to time, whatever are reasons behind it. Right now, Sidious is my favorite character. He gained that position after reading Darth Plagueis… and he might remain in that position for many years to come, but who knows, one day, as I mature, my character’s preferences will also change. Therefore, what my essay about Ahsoka might have probably done to you, was nothing else than give you different perspectives about her character, which could have contributed to your own change of perspective, culminating in your change of preferences toward Yoda.

I believe that the underestimation regarding Yoda’s character may be related to, though not entirely, his attitude toward Anakin in Episode III and how many Anakin’s fanboys and fangirls don’t take that well. Yoda is, at least to me, the embodiment of the Jedi Order as a sacred institution and its social function in the galactic community, yet that not necessarily represents what a Jedi should be, in my modest opinion. Yoda perfectly incarnates the trope of the Buddhist monk mixed up with other Abrahamic beliefs, and not everybody takes those things to heart, or are just indifferent to them.

I would first like to thank you for writing that all to me. It means a lot for someone to take all the time and thought to write out something of that length to little me. You are probably very busy. It was a beautiful letter, and nothing less of it. You are very wise.

I think it is true in what you said about your essay merely giving me a different perspective. That makes me feel better, but there is still some guilt for whatever reason for changing. Perhaps I will find out fully in the future.
