The whole thing was well done from the story developent and story pacing pov but as a whole idea it felt a bit random for me. That came out of nowhere as it wasn’t hinted before that Barriss is going off the rails.
I think that the reason behid that story arc was to have Ahoska away from Anakin and away from the Jedi Order to not mess up RotS. It had to be done somehow.
I have heard that in the early script for her story conclusion was to get her actually killed off far away from Anakin in a way that he could not help her at any point/way and to make another push for him to become Vader but idk realy. I’m glad that we have what is now.
It was really good. Honestly, I never would have expected it if I hadn’t got it spoiled to me.
It was unexpected but realistic
^it was spoiled for me too
It definitely came out of nowhere, but I think if they foreshadowed her betrayal that it would’ve lessened the impact. Given that Barriss was the model Padawan, it makes sense that she would become a zealous fundamentalist.
I liked her as a “villain” much more than Krell, whose fall to the dark side was a missed opportunity for exploring the amorality of terrible military commanders.
Barriss was interesting because, from a certain point of view, she had a point (enough to cause the Temple Guard who would become the Grand Inquisitor to doubt the Jedi) and she wasn’t a dark sider. She was a ultra-conservative Jedi who thought the Order and the Republic were betraying their principles by waging war.
I liked that complexity and it was an effective way to deepen Ahsoka’s feelings of betrayal by making a close friend turn on her.
No one excepted Barriss to go crazy because she never gave a single hint that her character arc was going in that direction.
Honestly, it felt very out of the blue and very odd that Barriss framed Ahsoka. It's like we skipped over an entire story arc where she starts to hate the Jedi Order and projects her hatred onto Ahsoka because she views her as a perfect Jedi and the embodiment of everything she now suddenly hates. They were friends, most characters who shift viewpoints try to recruit their friends, not frame them for terrorism.
So, it was shocking, but I don't feel it was particularly set up well.
I'd rather just see Sora Bulq as a villain
I liked her indeed. But I do feel like she was a bit random
Sure, Barriss’ turn to the Dark Side came out of nowhere, but it definitely made sense. It depicted a major point in the downfall of the Jedi Order.
^i agree
It was alright, but it felt too sudden. Which isn’t badd, but considering that we have had no explanation of how she fell in over 8 years is a bit frustrating.
Especially since I am a big fan of Barriss and the Medstar comics.
What do you think?
